Kleptomania

[edit]

The article forgot to mention that Henry Sobel has Kleptomania, a mental disorder characterized by compulsive and uncontrollable stealing. Please include that, for this explains why he stole the neckties.--Idontknow610 (talk) 21:43, 19 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

If you can provide a source for it which meets the guidelines at WP:RS, we can certainly include it.--Dali-Llama (talk) 02:30, 20 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The source is [1]. It is in Portuguese, though. I am sure one of you guys can translate it.--Idontknow610 (talk) 22:04, 20 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

There was good reason why I mentioned WP:RS. You cited a blog, which as is often the case, which does not meet the WP:RS requirements.--Dali-Llama (talk) 02:20, 21 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

In this site of Revista Epoca [2], it is written that it is a hypothesis that he had Kleptomania. Please include this hypothesis, for it is the most probable. I mean, why a multi-millionaire should steal something?--Idontknow610 (talk) 18:51, 21 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

A hypothesis is not good enough for an encyclopedia. Also, this is clearly a biography of a living person, so the degree of accuracy of the article must be beyond reproach. And besides, even the article cites a psychiatrist who clearly rules out kleptomania.--Dali-Llama (talk) 20:20, 21 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I mean that you put the hypothesis that he stole because he has kleptomania and the one that he stole because of him taking medications (which I think you included already). Please put that both are hypotheses, such as written in the site.--Idontknow610 (talk) 20:39, 21 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

"I" didn't put any hypothesis. The article contains part of a press release by the hospital and a statement at a press conference by Henry Sobel. This is not a hypothesis--it's not even ascribing a cause for his actions. It's just a press release and part of his press conference.--Dali-Llama (talk) 02:25, 22 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Of course you did not put any hypothesis. But the article does mention two hypotheses for his stealing: 1-That he has Kleptomania; 2- That he was under medicative treatment and, because of severe insomnia, took an immoderate quantity of some kind of remedy against insomnia. Because of that, the hypothesis says, he had lost control of himself. The editors of this article of Wikipedia could add both hypotheses, saying both are only hypotheses and are not proven.Idontknow610 (talk) 21:35, 22 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Again, read WP:BLP, WP:RS and WP:OR. The article does not have any hypothesis. You're inferring a hypothesis from what the doctors and Sobel said. Adding an explicit hypothesis not backed by a reliable source is original research and potentially libelous. Both big no-no's at Wikipedia.--Dali-Llama (talk) 02:57, 23 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I said the article mentions two hypotheses. But if you do not want to write those two hypotheses, just do not put. Our discussion is finished.--Idontknow610 (talk) 22:37, 23 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Reform or Conservative?

[edit]

As far as I understand it, those categories are mutually exclusive. Is he a Reform Rabbi or a Conservative Rabbi? Ninguém (talk) 00:32, 1 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
